In its 2011 Budget, the Ontario government showed they heard us by committing to establish and participate in a new insurance based, multi-commodity Risk Management Insurance Program (RMP). The members of Ontario Pork and Ontario Cattlemen focused on the establishment of RMP as their first and most important request of government. Since the budget announcement in late March, Minister Mitchell and OMAFRA’s staff have worked closely with us and all commodity groups to ensure the program design will work for farmers.

Pork and beef farmers are now ready to move forward in partnership with the provincial government on this historic program. This is great news and we applaud the government for joining with us.

The establishment of a permanent risk management insurance program will give farmers the tools they need to sustain their operations so they can continue to provide high quality, locally grown food to Ontario consumers.
